How to be a Better Man in 5 Mindful Steps

how to be a better man

There’s no limit to being better. You can always strive for improvement, especially when the emotional and spiritual parts of you are in question. People learn as they live and in that respect, you can either choose to let your spirit grow or ignore it completely. The latter option may be comfortable and easy, but it can - and will - make you feel like there’s something lacking all the time. Such feelings can take over from time to time, which can affect your behavior towards others as well as yourself. If you’ve noticed that something is a bit unsettling with the way you feel inside and you can actually pinpoint the mistakes you make because of that feeling, it’s time to embrace the growth.

Acknowledge your actions

Sometimes it’s pretty difficult to stand behind the things we do in life. This is precisely one of the things that have to change if you want to become a better person. It will take time, like every growth does, but it’s essential that you stop referring to your actions insignificant. If you did something great and achieved success, feel free to accept it and be happy about it. On the other hand, if you did something bad or failed whatever you had to do, own up to it. Running away from your actions, regardless of whether they’re amazing or poor, is the same as running away from yourself.

Accept yourself and accept others

Once you clear the first step and become more aware of yourself, it’s time to do the same for others. This doesn’t mean that you have to like everyone you ever meet. However, it does mean that you should accept them the way they are. If you like them, that’s great. If you don’t, move along. It seems quite simple, doesn’t it? But truly accepting that something is what it is, and that someone is who they are without letting it affect and change you is one of the most important steps towards becoming not just a better man, but a real gentleman actually.

Be emotionally stronger

There’s no such thing as perfect emotional strength that you should look up to and strive to achieve. The thing is that you should strive to be emotionally stronger compared to how you were before. If you constantly give in to weakness and look for emotional support elsewhere over and over again, people around you are going to lose their respect for you. When it comes to men’s mental health, this can have serious influence since the whole situation will make you more insecure and weak, and the cycle will repeat itself. We all need someone by our side from time to time but remember – the only person who can carry your weight is you.

Learn, engage and have fun

If you’re constantly stuck in one place, one situation, one feeling, you won’t be able to gain enough experience that helps people grow. You have to break this bad habit. Listen, you don’t have to get up one day and decide to climb Mount Everest, but you should definitely step out of your safe space a little by little. Find something new that you would like to learn. Engage in interesting discussions and hobbies. Be a part of the Movember movement. Change your fashion style if you want to. Remember that the only person standing in your way is you. If you want a change to the better, you have to move.

Discover your own spirituality

The best way to actually tune in with the changes is to delve deep into your mind and soul. The answer to this is meditation. Not only will meditation help you learn more about who you are but it will also help you relax and de-stress. Try to create a calm and zen-like corner in your home, with plants, plenty of natural light and Tibetan prayer flags that will help you dive deep inside your own mind and get the answers you need in order to move closer to a better man than you were before.

To become a better person means to stop fearing life and yourself. If you know who the person walking in your shoes is, insecurities will become a thing of the past. Your actions will speak in your favor. And the more you work on yourself the wider and brighter the road to future will get.
